The advent of Web 2.0 has transformed the online marketing landscape dramatically. Small and medium-sized businesses can now compete on a level playing field with industry giants like Unilever or websites such as MySpace.

With Web 2.0 you can market your products on social networking sites and blogs at very little cost, while the new technology also allows you to monitor customer trends and measure results.

One of the oldest and most traditional methods of Web 2.0 marketing is targeted advertising on search engines. With this method you can have your ad listed on the search results page or appear within an article on a subject related to your product. These are generally paid for per click, but you can be guaranteed each click will bring a new visit to your site.

<img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/108/291678971_60e59e508a_m.jpg" alt="Web 2.0 Summit (Marketing: Where Are We Now?)"">

A much more recent phenomenon is the use of social networking websites to market products. This method is used by everyone from one man operations to multi-national corporations. A page on MySpace or FaceBook can boost the popularity of your product, but be sure to keep the content fresh and updated. Also, you will generally have a young audience here so the content should reflect this.

Blogs offer similar opportunities for Web 2.0 marketing. This is an inexpensive way to subtly market your product or service on the web. However, good content that is updated regularly is essential. Just talking about your products will drive visitors away. Your blog entries will have to be interesting, informative and well written.

If you feel you have the resources and talents in your organization to make interesting audio snippets, you could try podcasting. Again, you will need to provide something that listeners will want to hear, while promoting your product. For example, if you sell cars or car parts you could produce a podcast on car care tips.

Basically, you’ll want to get news and references to your business out there in as many ways as possible. Web 2.0 allows you to send news and press releases direct to the consumer. For example you could offer a RSS feed on your website, or submit search engine optimized press releases to online news sites.

The real beauty of Web 2.0 marketing is that it can be cheap to do. Not all of the options described above might be suitable to market your business, but a simple blog or MySpace page will cost you very little.

When looking for revenue from an entire region, one should not lose sight of online business marketing. Internet marketing is important for building up a local business. Many customers are nearby but if companies are not targeting them or reaching out to them, such potential clients may not even know that the companies are there. Local businesses can look far, but at the same time they should not lose sight of what can be near. Business online marketing is a wonderful method to obtain valuable business, meet new customers, and build the opportunity for long term relationships.

Merchants who own stores and provide local services should try a website that offers various local business registration tools. The website should be set up in such a way that local consumers can quickly acquire valuable information. Interactive maps detailing local businesses can help local customers easily find the business. Perhaps such businesses are close by but customers are unaware that they even exist. Many potential clients use the internet to find local businesses, instead of printed business directories and phone books. If your business is not listed on any website, many potential clients nearby will not be reached. Websites are not only used to promote international businesses and attract potential clients worldwide, but should be targeted to those that are near and are more likely to become valuable long term clients.

A website is a key and invaluable part of the business world today. Think about it. Your website should indicate all important information including contact name, e-mail, physical addresses, telephone contacts, and provide methods to upload small business coupons. The website must be recognized by search engines and should also be customized to meet the requirements of local residents who are being targeted. Furthermore, with local Internet marketing strategy in mind, merchants should find services that focus on local search engine optimization (SEO). The more that a company can get its name out into the open, the better potential there is for business opportunities. Some customers may search directly for your company by name. Others search for the name of the location in combination with the product of service needed. In both cases you will want to have a website online so that they can get in touch with you.

The website should finally target traffic for local businesses and should be SEO friendly using the best

local advertising tips available. Professional experts are usually available in the market to place the link in appropriate spots such as local town websites, chambers of commerce, local radio, and television stations. These steps can increase local leads and profits. Once potential customers see your link, they will visit your web site. Once they realize that you are a local business right in their own community, they will be more apt to use your services. A business has a better chance of grabbing customers who are local than from clients who are far away. Use this opportunity to build your business and meet new local customers. Your revenues can grow now!

Organic Search Engine Optimization Secrets – How Organic Search Engine Optimization Can Help Your Site Outwit The Leader

An organic search engine optimization can help you beat the leader. In the default option, merely 10 web sites will land in the first page of Google after a search; and of those, nearly all users will dismiss the last 5. After reading these verified web marketing schemes and tips you will be capable to do your own basic organic search engine optimization. You will also realize what to ask from a search engine optimization team.

“Organic” signifies natural. Billions of pages on the Net were produced without even thinking about organic search engine optimization in their development stages. Users have a instinctive way to find the information they are looking for. When your company builds a site with search marketing in mind, your traffic statistics are way above average in comparison to web sites developed from only a designer’s point of view. Traffic, naturally, means enhanced opportunities for revenues.

Organic search engine optimization means satisfying the motives of could-be surfers in such a way that they can retrieve from your site what they were looking for in the main search engines. Now, what is organic data, in any case?

Individuals enter diverse kinds of queries. Some type one question, using their own words like in “how to do seo” or “what is organic seo”. Sometimes they add some redundancy (“search seo”). Many users seek short idioms (” top search engine ranking”). Others enter weird combinations of words when they look for poems or plays. Still others, more mathematically oriented, prefer Boolean formulas like “+improve search engine + placing -ads’”.

All these querying styles are the normal, “organic” manner. Natural searches lead to two varieties of solutions: natural and “forced” or paid results that search engines generate in their advertising space.

From an organic search engine optimization viewpoint, those word combinations compete among them. Located in convenient points of your pages, these idioms compete for the 1st page of outcomes. They compete with idiomatic expressions from other organic search engine optimization attempts: your competitors’.

When attempting organic search engine optimization bear in mind: 1_Not always keywords that best identify the topic of your site or the most sought after idiomatic expressions are the optimal words for your marketing campaign.

2_Organic search engine optimization is a never ending effort. Words or names that once were incessantly sought after can fall into oblivion in years.

3_Conversely| On the other hand| Likewise}, never-heard-of words become cool after particular events. Before 2007, how many times have you heard the name Barack Obama? That name was among the top searches in Google during 2008. Who is searching “Obama vs McCain” in 2009? Therefore, ranking your site for several keywords is not enough. organic search engine optimization is a continuous procedure.

The idea of “right-place, right-time” placement is a dream of marketers everywhere. Finding and actually taking advantage of these marketing opportunities can be difficult, especially on “high consideration” products and services. And then came the Internet. Consumers are constantly searching for information on the Internet (almost 450 million queries daily). While many Internet searches are recreational, around 70 percent of consumers will research products and services on the Internet in a given year. A majority of these consumer will then purchase the product or service locally. For that reason, local Internet marketing has taken off in leaps and bounds.

Local Internet marketing works like this:

An Internet-savvy family from Middletown, USA needs a new television. They visit a web search engine to research the models. Typing “Sony” on Google or Yahoo! yields typical results, displaying a link to Sony’s website with other “less useful” search engine listings. However, there’s something more going on here.

Even without entering their location, the top and right sides of this results page display ads for Sony showrooms in Middletown. One click to the local company’s website can let the potential customer see current stock and a special Internet sale for Sony buyers. The local merchant has been presented as both a solution for the information and a local contact for the purchase, and the loop is closed.

Some of the programs being offered for local Internet marketing in major search engines are Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Verizon Superpages cost-per-click. Each wants to become the consumer’s next choice for local Internet searches. These large ad networks claim to cover 70 to 80 percent of the Internet with their pages and “partner sites.”

A benefit to the advertiser is the cost-per-click pricing model. The ads are free until someone clicks, at which time a small fee is charged and the visitor is sent to the advertiser’s Web site.

There are no long-term commitments for cost-per-click, and advertisers can change or stop ads at any time. They can create predefined budgets for the day or month and fraud-proofing mechanisms prevent competitors from rapid-fire clicking. Markets can be limited to single or multiple cities, states, languages and countries.

Local Internet marketing works for consumers because it makes it easier for them to find the products or services that they are looking for in their area. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved!

Search engine optimization, more popularly known as SEO, is a set of methods aimed mainly at improving the ranking of a website within the search engine listings. It is considered as the subset of search engine marketing. Search engine optimization is mainly divided into two categories – White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO. White Hat SEO is the method that is generally approved by almost all search engines. These include adding more content with targeted keywords and improving a website’s quality. While Black Hat SEO includes tricks such as cloaking and spamdexing. Black hatters usually counter that the methods used by the search engine optimizers are irrelevant.

SEO is concerned with the improvement of the number and position of its search results for a number of relevant keywords. It is also used to increase the number of visitors to the website. Search engine optimization is often provided as a stand alone service, as a part of a larger marketing effort or by the incorporation into the initial development and design of a website. Pay per click (PPC) advertising is significantly high for competitive and high volume search terms. Hence, SEO is essential for the high volume search terms. A significant savings can be done by ranking well in the organic search results. Usually the website owners go for search engine optimization of their sites only when the cost of optimization is less than the cost of advertising.

The goals for search engine optimization differs for various sites. Broad search optimization strategy is ideal for websites having a wide interest such as a periodicals and directories. Most of the website owners optimize their sites for a variety of highly specific keywords. An excessive broad search optimization results in the prevention of the progress of marketing strategies. It is due to the generation of a large volume of low quality inquiries. This problem can be reduced considerably by focusing more on desirable traffic. Search engine optimization is very effective when it is used as a part of the smart niche marketing, which is a focused and target-able portion of the market. Organic SEO is search engine optimization that is done manually without using any Black Hat methods, underhand methods, or automated scripting. This is the purest form of search engine optimization.

It is very important to understand the search engines and their general concept for the use of effective SEO methods. Each page of the search result is usually

Well, this is it.

You have decided to move forward with your SEO efforts, but now what?

The first step is to realize exactly where you are at in the process.

Do you have a fully functional website? Do you need help with researching keywords? Do you want someone to assess your On-Page SEO because you don’t trust your webmaster? Do you need help in boosting your backlinking efforts?

All of the above questions are valid and you must find out where your starting point is. Once you know this, you can plot a course.

We often ask our clients, “Would you like to set up a plan for 3 months, 6 months or even a year?” We do this to plot a logical course both parties can follow.

Everyone’s needs are different. You may want to figure out a simple plan that involves on and off-page optimization for 3 keywords over a 3 month period. If you are small local business in an easy-to-target niche, this may be all that is required.

On the other hand you might need to figure out a yearlong plan that includes keyword research and on and off-page SEO for 10 different keywords. Larger or even medium size businesses normally require this kind of attention.

It is your task now to create a personal road map.

Look at where your site is now – and then what you like to accomplish in 3 months, 6 months and then for the year.

Furthermore, you should consider your budget. $500 each month will get you WAY more results MUCH quicker than $100 per month will. If you are serious about getting started with SEO, then head over to our getting started area here at StraightForwardSEO.

Go ahead, put us to the test. Drill us with a few questions and see what you think.

We hope the previous 5 posts have brought you up to speed on a few of the ins and outs of Search Engine Optimization. Just with the basic information you have read you can now begin interviewing SEO companies.

Here are 3 very important questions to ask each and every time you encounter someone who says, “Oh – I do SEO! I can help!”

First: “What exactly does your company do to help with the On-Page SEO of its clients?”

Second: “What exactly does your company do to help with the Off-Page SEO efforts of its clients?”

Third: “What results do you guarantee?”

The first question has to do with On-Page SEO. You should be listening for information about what they will do with your meta tags, the keywords, URL and linking structures, adding fresh content and basic visual appeal.

If you hear too much talk about adding eye-catching graphics, flash presentations, social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc…) then you should probably run. These do very little in helping search engines to see your site as well organized and clean.

The second question has to do with Off-Page SEO. You should be listening for how and what type of backlinks they can offer. If you hear more than 5 different styles of backlinks, then you are probably safe.

If you hear too much talk about social media as a way to help with your SEO efforts, be weary. Facebook and Twitter can only do so much. Also make sure they can offer a wide array of backlinks. An SEO company is NOT an SEO company if they only specialize in 2 or 3 styles of backlinking.

Question three is the real test of any SEO company – the guarantee. If the company can guarantee X amount of backlinks for X amount of keywords in X amount of days – then you are safe. If the company guarantees that someone will answer your questions within 48 hours then you are safe.

But you should definitely be suspicious of ANY SEO COMPANY that guarantees top 3 results for your keywords. Do you remember in part 5 of this series when we spoke about SEO being a loose science?

This still remains a fact.

How can anyone guarantee results in the search engines when first, it’s all based off of this “loose science” and second, when Google changes its search algorithm a few times every year?

You look for the same things in an SEO company as you would any other company you would want to partner with: punctuality, good service, attention to detail and results over time.

Welcome Back!

There’s a reason why there are 2 post talking about backlinks in this series.

It takes a lot of focused effort over a few months to build up enough backlinks before your website starts to break into the top 10 of Google.

It can sometimes be challenge to break past certain rankings. It often happens you will continually be getting backlinks without any results. You may sit at the number 7 spot for a month or two before all of a sudden; you jump to the number 3 position.

It may sound strange – but this happens ALL the time.

Unfortunately there is no exact science behind when and why Google will reward you with better rankings. In this regard, SEO can best be described as a “loose science.”

However, one fact remains. If you do keep up with the backlinking to your site – you will eventually see results. Google will reward you if you are persistent. This is often why many companies will outsource the backlinking portion of SEO to other companies.

Now would be a good time to explain a potential pitfall many people fall into when backlinking. Let’s assume you have gotten up to the number 2 slot in Google for your keyword phrase.

This is excellent! You should feel very accomplished for all of your efforts and money spent. You are undoubtedly seeing lots of good traffic and plenty of sales from this ranking.

But here comes the pitfall most people don’t think about. If you are sitting at a high ranking for your keyword phrase, you need to keep pushing! Just because you have reached the top of Google doesn’t mean you will ALWAYS stay there.

Investing the time and money in doing an extra Off-Page SEO push is always a good idea. The fact is, you have competition out there.

You are now in the number 2 slot in Google, but what happened to the person who WAS in number 2. They may not be happy you have just taken a portion of their market share. Furthermore, they will be planning an SEO strategy to retake their position, and possibly even be making a run at the number 1 spot for their keyword phrase.

It is due to the above (any many other reasons) you may want to consider hiring an SEO company to help guide you through the process.

The next post will talk about the pros and cons in outsourcing your SEO efforts and what to look for so you don’t get taken advantage of.

Wow,

You have come a long way. You’ve got your keywords. You’ve got your On-Page SEO all set. Now it is time to start building search engine trust!

(Wait a minute, I thought you said this post was about getting traffic to my site?!?!)

The only way you are going to move your website up further in the rankings is by making the search engines recognize your site is a well-respected and trusted website.

So what does well-respected mean?

The main reason sites like Wikipedia often turn up in the top 10 of Google searches is because people often link back to Wikipedia.

The premise is simple really. If you have good content and people like what they see on your webpage – then they will link back to your page. Thus, your site starts to gain that “respect” through these “backlinks”

The more backlinking you can do to any given page on your website the better. There are many ways to get backlinks out there. (This process of backlinking is also known as “Off-Page SEO”)

You could write an article that links back to your site then post it on the web – this would provide you with a backlink. You could also create a profile on a social networking site which links back to your site as well, securing another backlink.

There are tons and tons of ways to get backlinks to your web page. It starts to get complicated because not all backlinks are created equal. For example, a backlink from the University of Harvard would carry more “weight” than a backlink from a video game forum.

Furthermore, you can spend YOUR TIME doing this backlinking to your website, or simply OUTSOURCE this process to an SEO company. It always depends on how much time or money you have.

If you have plenty of time with little money – you may want to go the do-it-yourself route. However, if you have some capital set aside outsourcing the process is probably the better option.

To read more about the differences between backlinks have a look at the article on our website:

Simply scroll down a bit till you see the title, Why Building a Diverse Backlink Portfolio is Extremely Important

This article provides a unique perspective of backlinks and how to compete with Google’s ongoing changes.

The next post will talk in depth about creating backlinks so you are able to build that respect with Google and other search engines.
